Sealants
Our genetic makeup cause the chewing surfaces of the teeth to be smooth
and self-cleansing or rough and pitted.
Food debris is trapped in the pitted areas and can not be brushed clean.
The result is decay. The decay can be removed and a filling placed, but
you are faced with a lifetime of maintaining and replacing the filling
when it wears out.
If we are certain that decay is not present, we can place sealants. The
sealants fill the pits and grooves in the tooth surface and prevents food
debris from accumulating. This prevents the decay process from starting.
The placement of the sealants is a painless procedure that does not require
the removal of any tooth structure.
